I am Jack’s Podcast #8: STAR TREK INTO DARKNESS, BEAUTIFUL CREATURES and SIDE EFFECTS
> June 5th, 2013
Technical glitches and allergies keep me from making a timely podcast. But I press on as diligently as I can. I play catch-up with theatrical reviews of J.J. Abrams' STAR TREK INTO DARKNESS as well as the comedy PEEPLES starring Craig Robinson, Kerry Washington and David Alan Grier. Then I offer Blu-ray reviews of Steven Soderbergh's SIDE EFEECTS (starring Rooney Mara, Jude Law and Channing Tatum) and the adaptation of the gothic fantasy-romance BEAUTIFUL CREATURES starring Alden Ehrenrich, Alice Englert, Emmy Rossum, Viola Davis, Jeremy Irons and Emma Thompson. For my Lucky Number 7 podcast, I offer my thoughts on Baz Luhrmann's adaptation of F. Scott Fitzgerald's THE GREAT GATSBY starring Leonardo DiCaprio, Tobey Maguire, and Carey Mulligan. I review the moving coming-of-age drama MUD starring Matthew McConaghey, Sam Shepard and Reese Witherspoon. In addition, I offer a review the recent Blu-ray release of the romantic thriller SAFE HAVEN starring Julianne Hough & Josh Duhamel. Once again, please excuse all my mumbling and stammering, I'm a slow adapter to all of this. If you want to listen to a specific review (spoiler-free, as always) just enter in one of the time-codes below.

After months from being away from the microphone, I'm back at it again trying a different appraoch. This podcast contains only three reviews, and still runs a little over an hour. I address the pros and cons of Marvel's IRON MAN 3 as well as offer Blu-ray reviews of new releases PARKER (starring Jason Statham) and the box-office hit MAMA (starring Jessica Chastain). To listen to a specific review, you can jump to the timecode(s) listed below.
Well after nearly two weeks away from the microphone, I have returned for my fifth podcast dedicated solely to who/what will win at this year's Academy Awards ceremony on Sunday February 24th. I analyze this stuff VERY intensly (hence, the 78 minute podcast runtime), so please take note if you have Oscar betting ballots to fill out. I provide my picks for who will win versus who I personally would like to see win, as well as who/what has the best chace of puling a dark horse surprise win.
Oh how the challenges of making a timely podcast continue, as all of the movies that I review on this week's podcast are currently already on thier way out of theaters. Nevertheless, I hope you can still enjoy and take note of my latest film reviews. I hope to have more reviews in the next couple of days. If you want to listen to a specific review you can jump to the following timecodes:
Unlike my first podcast, I finally take some time to review 5 features in current theatrical release. Followed by a listing of this year's Oscar nominees. I plan to offer my predicitions to who will actually win later next month. Once again, there is a LOT of mumbling and stammering by me in this podcast. Please forgive me, I'm still trying to get the hang of this.
Given that this is my very first podcast...ever. It's only fair that I give you the listener a little inroduction to who I am and more importantly what I intend to accomplish with this podcast. In additon to what I feel will set it apart from all the countless other film review podcasts out there. Please excuse all the "ums", like I asid: This is my first time.
